The Effect
The magician removes thirteen cards from the top of the deck and holds them face down.
The magician spells “Ace,” moving one card from the top to the bottom for each letter.
The next card is turned over and is revealed to be an Ace.
The same process continues through Two, Three, Four and all the way to King. Every card appears in perfect sequence.
What You’ll Need
🃏 Thirteen Cards
Use one card of each value from Ace through King.
🎨 Mixed Suits
A mixture of suits makes the setup look less obvious.
🪄 Full Deck Optional
Place the prepared packet on top of a full deck for a more natural opening.
Secret Preparation
Arrange the thirteen cards in the following order from bottom to top:
Bottom to Top
3, 8, 7, Ace, Queen, 6, 4, 2, Jack, King, 10, 9, 5
The Five should be the top card of the packet.
Place the entire prepared packet face down on top of the deck.
Before You Perform
You may give the deck a false shuffle that leaves the top thirteen cards undisturbed.
Alternatively, simply handle the deck casually and explain that you need thirteen cards for an experiment.
Do not overemphasize the shuffle. The effect is strong enough without making the deck order a challenge.
Remove the Packet
Lift the top thirteen cards from the deck as one group.
You may briefly fan the faces to show a mixed selection, then square the packet and turn it face down.
Spell “Ace”
Spell A-C-E aloud.
For each letter, move the top card of the packet to the bottom.
After the final letter, turn over the new top card. It will be the Ace.
Place the Ace face up on the table.
Continue in Order
Repeat the same process for every remaining value.
Spell the values in this order:
Ace, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Jack, Queen and King.
After spelling each word, turn over the next top card and place it face up on the table.
Why It Works
The packet has been arranged so that moving one card for each letter automatically positions the correct value on top.
Every reveal also changes the packet for the next word, so the sequence continues without any extra calculation.
Once the setup is correct, the trick is almost automatic.
Performance Tips
Spell clearly and at a steady pace.
Keep the top-to-bottom card movements identical each time.
Place the revealed cards in a neat row so the growing sequence becomes part of the effect.
Use mixed suits so the packet appears random when briefly shown.

Present the routine as a strange connection between words and cards rather than as a puzzle about a prearranged deck.
Common Mistakes
Make sure you know whether your setup list is being read from bottom to top or top to bottom.
Do not accidentally reveal a card before completing the full spelling.
Always move the counted cards from the top to the bottom.
Do not disturb the prepared packet with a genuine shuffle.
Practise the spellings of Eight, Queen and King so the rhythm stays smooth.
Practice Exercise
Write the setup order on a note and arrange the packet several times until you can do it from memory.
Run through the complete routine slowly while checking every reveal.
Once the sequence is reliable, practise speaking and dealing at the same time without looking hesitant.
