Magic Coin Pouch Trick
This is a clever coin trick that can be performed almost impromptu using only two simple props: a coin and a square of paper. The coin is wrapped inside the paper, yet at the finish the paper can be torn open and the coin appears to have vanished.
The trick is easy to learn and is a good close-up magic effect for beginners. The secret is in the way the paper is folded to form a hidden opening at the top of the pouch.

Step 1 - Get the Materials
Get a coin and a square piece of paper. Show both items to the audience so they can see that they appear to be ordinary everyday objects.

Step 2 - Place the Coin
Hold the square of paper and place the coin in the centre.

Step 3 - Fold the Bottom Edge
Fold the bottom edge of the paper upwards so that it covers the coin. Do not fold it all the way to the top edge. Leave a gap of about 5 millimetres.

Step 4 - Fold the Right Edge
Fold the right edge of the paper backwards behind the coin.

Step 5 - Fold the Left Edge
Fold the left edge of the paper backwards behind the coin in the same way.

Step 6 - Make the Secret Pouch
Bend the top flap of the paper behind the coin. To the audience the coin now appears to be completely sealed inside the paper.
Secretly, however, an opening remains at the top of the paper pouch. This opening is what allows the coin to escape.

Step 7 - Secretly Remove the Coin
Turn the paper pouch upside down in your hand. Allow the coin to fall gently through the hidden opening and into your palm, where it can be concealed from the audience.

Step 8 - The Vanish
For the finale, tear the paper pouch in two. The audience can clearly see that the coin has apparently vanished.
Add a little patter and presentation to make the effect more entertaining.
Performance Tip
The method is simple, so concentrate on making the folds look natural and on secretly catching the coin without drawing attention to your hand. Practise the handling until you can turn the pouch over and palm the coin smoothly.
How about a mind boggling card illusion?
